The Eric Byrd Trio

The Eric Byrd Trio, jazz

The Eric Byrd Trio (EBT) are internationally respected jazz artists known for their dynamic fusion of swing, bebop, gospel, and blues. For more than 25 years, the Maryland-based ensemble has captivated audiences across the United States, Europe, South America, the Caribbean, and the Middle East. Their work has been recognized with a Maryland State Arts Council Independent Artist Award and a Governor’s Citation honoring over two decades of global touring.

EBT’s discography spans 12 recordings, including Twenty, which earned the 2022 Washington Area Music Award (Wammie) for Jazz Recording of the Year. Their most recent release, Echoes of Arrival (2025), reflects the trio’s continued artistic growth—rooted in tradition while embracing modern expression and fearless improvisation.

The Trio has appeared at major festivals and venues and shared stages with jazz luminaries such as Wynton Marsalis, Randy Brecker, Mike Stern, and Yolanda Adams. As former Kennedy Center/U.S. State Department Jazz Ambassadors, they have represented American culture internationally through performance, education, and outreach.

In addition to their performance careers, all members of the Eric Byrd Trio are accomplished educators holding advanced degrees in music history, African American music, or jazz performance. Their workshops and clinics explore the deep connections between spirituals, gospel, blues, and jazz. Whether on concert stages or in educational settings, EBT delivers performances that are soulful, engaging, and deeply connected to the living tradition of jazz.
