Julia Isabella Angeles
Julia, 12 years old, began her musical studies on the cello at age 3. Her past and present cello teachers include Martine Benmann, Daniel Levitov, and Alicia Ward. She was the recipient of the first place award at the 34th Annual Music Festival in Honor of Confucius Youth Cello Division in 2019. She was a winner of the Outstanding Young Composer Award in the Yamaha National Junior Original Composers Competition in 2020 for her original composition for the cello and piano entitled “Artemis Sonata in D Minor.” She won third place at the Bach with A View International Young Artists Festival Junior Strings Division in 2021. Aside from cello, Julia plays four other instruments— piano, erhu (ancient Chinese fiddle), drums, and ukulele. She received an Honorable Mention in the 18th Annual Sejong Piano Competition in 2021 and a Gold Award in the Global Chinese Youth Erhu Performance in 2024. In her spare time, she loves to read, write stories, bake, knit, sail, ski, and practice Chinese classical dance.
