“Boldly going where no cello and marimba have gone before.”

A meeting in Montreal between Canadian percussionist Krystina Marcoux and Argentinian cellist Juan Sebastian Delgado led to an unexpected discovery: cello and marimba, an unlikely duo. What began as an exploration born of pure curiosity has evolved into a lifelong artistic pursuit. Stick&Bow now reveals the infinite dialogue between these two powerful instruments.
Hailed by CBC Music as ''a groundbreaking, boundary-pushing group that's catching a lot of attention'' and featured in The Strad as a duo ''formed in Montreal seven years ago with the desire to present music both old and new through the unusual filter of cello and marimba arrangements,'' this unique ensemble captivates audiences with their compelling stage presence, genuine connection, and eclectic programming.
Named Artists of the Year and awarded the International Achievement recognition at the 2024 Opus Awards, they've performed over 400 concerts across a dozen countries on three continents. Debut Atlantic Artists 2023, JM France & Canada (2019/20/22/23), and artists in residence at UC Davis (2025/26) in California, their growing international presence reflects unanimous acclaim.
Grounded in rigorous classical training at the CNSMD in Lyon and McGill University in Montreal, they draw inspiration from a wide musical landscape—ranging from Bach to Pink Floyd and System of a Down, while also embracing Argentine tango and Armenian folk traditions.
Driven by pure musical passion and unbound by tradition, they constantly expand their repertoire through new commissions. Deeply committed to contemporary music, they've commissioned works from composers including Luis Naon, Alejandro Vinao, Luna Pearl Woolf, Jason Noble, Anna Pidgorna, and Marcelo Nisinman. Through inventive arrangements, they reimagine history's most iconic works, transformed by the surprising marriage of marimba and cello.
In 2021, they directed a ciné-concert featuring Luis Naon's music with ensemble Paramirabo. To celebrate their fifth anniversary in 2023, they created Cinco!, a program entirely dedicated to new music featuring 10 commissioned premieres in partnership with Le Vivier. In 2025, Orford Musique commissioned a theatrical production for their prestigious festival, a creation that was praised by the audience.
Four albums demonstrate their impressive versatility. Resonance (2019) was hailed by The Whole Note as ''simply brilliant'', followed by an EP in 2020. Their exploration of Bach's Trio Sonatas (2021) alongside harpsichordist Luc Beauséjour reveals yet another facet of their artistry. Veni, vola, veni (2022) revisits Piazzolla's universe with legendary pianist Gustavo Beytelmann, Piazzolla's former collaborator. This encounter, described as ''a true consecration'' by Frédéric Cardin, was praised by none other than Victor Hugo Morales as ''one of the finest interpretations of Vardarito ever recorded.'' Their fifth album, ''Timeless Whispers'', set for release in September 2026, promises an unprecedented dialogue between classical music and folk traditions, where timeless melodies whisper to one another.
Their inexhaustible energy has led them to remarkable performances worldwide: tours in Argentina (2023, 2024), multiple appearances across the USA (2024, 2025, 2026), extensive touring and collaborations in France (2022, 2023, 2025, 2026), concerts in Ecuador (2025) and Colombia (2019, 2023), alongside their ongoing residency at UCDavis and over 250 concerts across Canada, from coast to coast.
